"Affordable Long-Term Care"
Hawaii is faced with a very serious problem concerning "Affordable Long-Term Care". There are many outstanding private facilities available throughout the state, but you can 86 the affordable part. It will be the responsibility of the state to provide the people of "Hawaii" with affordable long-term care, because no private long-term care provider will make it affordable for us. So, if I am elected as your next governor this is how I would provide the people of Hawaii with "Affordable" long-term care. My solution is to build and maintain long-term care facilities in every community across the state, from Hilo to Hanalei. Building and maintaining these care centers is the only way we can provide top quality care at an affordable price. This project will take many years to complete but I know that you'll agree with me in saying that it's the only solution! Again your asking yourself "where is this guy going to get the money to build these care centers?" and again I will tell you that the "Ohana Lottery" will provide the necessary funds needed to build these facilities. Now we're not going to be able to build all of them at once, however we will complete 2 to 4 facilities a year. Infact many of the structures are already in our communities. Just look around and you'll see a empty elementary school that can be transformed into a 150 to 200 bed facility. Here are a few good reasons why I want to build a care center in every community. First of all, we need them! Next imagine if you will we're in Kalihi and a long-term care resident wonders off the property, he or she may get lost or even hurt in an unfamiliar setting. But if this person spent most of their life in Kalihi they would be able to easily identify where they were by recognizing landmarks such as the Bishop Museum or maybe Farrington High School or even the Kapalama canal, you get the idea. Now let's "kick it up a notch" and our resident has alzheimer's and wouldn't be able to recognize anything. Again, if this person spent most of their life in Kalihi the people in the neighborhood may see them and assist the families and athorities in locating them. Another reason is that if this person lived most of their life in Kalihi it would make it easier for their families to come and visit. Finally by having to maintain these care centers throughout the state we would be filling another need in creating good jods/careers for our people in every community on every island. The wide variety of opportunities would range from groundkeeping to housekeeping to healthcare and even administration. So you see it's a win, win, win, situation! By the way todays average cost of private long-term care is between $5,000.00 and $7,500.00 a month!
